The club has dedicated itself to working on the ice and off to help build the Locker Room at the new Dr. Peter Centre. For the next three years, the team will focus its fundraising efforts toward the dedication of the “Vancouver Cutting Edges Hockey Club Locker Room”. This unique contribution will express a legacy to teamwork, community spirit, respect and joy of life.
With pride, the Cutting Edges are participating in the capital campaign to construct a new permanent home for the Dr. Peter Centre. To be located at Comox and Thurlow Streets, the new Centre will house programs that provide comfort care for people with HIV/AIDS.
Everyone can be part of “our team” as it shoots for this goal!
Fundraising efforts of the Cutting Edges throughout the year are directed toward the team’s major goal of dedicating the “Vancouver Cutting Edges Hockey Club Locker Room” at the new Dr. Peter Centre.
Team players, family and friends volunteer at numerous events including Whistler Gay Ski Week (every February) and Vancouver’s Gay Pride celebration (each August). And, of course, proceeds from the hockey team’s annual international gay ice hockey tournament (April) are also part of the Dr. Peter Centre initiative.
You can be part of our team’s goal!!! Your support of the Cutting Edges Gay Hockey Club is always welcome. However, donations can be specifically directed to the team’s initiative to dedicate the “Vancouver Cutting Edges Hockey Club Locker Room” at the new Dr. Peter Centre. Just contact us for details. For donations of $100 or more made through the hockey club, a tax-deductible charitable receipt will be issued to you for personal use (while the amount counts towards the Club’s goal).
You can also be part of the team’s initiative by actively participating in events and fundraisers. As with hockey, we encourage you to have fun and to give it your best shot! Give generously! You might even want to join the team in volunteering to assist at one of our events.
Check back to this web site often to see when events and fundraisers are scheduled.
Dr. Peter himself, was known to lace up his skates for a game of hockey!; in the photo in the VERY TOP LEFT of the screen, Peter is climbing over the boards for his medical school team the 'Scalpel Blades' when he was a student at UBC in the 1980s. According to his mother, any shortcomings in talent were more than made up for with enthusiasm (Photo courtesy of Shirley Young, Dr. Peter's mother).
