The Edges A have been bursting out, as it were, for some time now. You can see some of their players bursting all over The Fountainhead Pub on Friday nights, should you be in the neighbourhood, and later, generally in establishments known for their many doors, and even more openings.
Let’s just say, that in this writer’s opinion, you see more of the A Team bursting out at the buffet table too. So, it came as a surprise that this time around the Vancouver Cutting Edges A Team were bursting out onto the ice, as they returned to UBC’s Thunderbird Arena, and began the season 3-0. No one was more surprised than this hockey pundit who has been (literally) following the team since they reneged on an IOU over a re-sale of some slightly used “art-film” videotapes.
After two earlier victories in what has been described as their “exhibition” games, the A Team defeated old-time rivals The Ice Cats 2-1 on Saturday, September 13th, and lead Division Four with a total of 6 points. Defence man, Richard Theriault, recording his 40th goal in the UBC Thunderbird Arena leagues, got the game winner at the 4:39 mark of the third period.
Next up for the A’s? Long time rivals, The Tankers, set for Saturday, September 27th at 8:30 pm at the Father Bauer rink, UBC Thunderbird Arena. We’ll see then and there if these boys are for real, or are just a quick burst, like a choirboy in confessional.
