CP – Vancouver: The Vancouver Cutting Edges B Squad, finished the 2009/2010 regular season tied for first place in their division, but my virtue of the tie breaker rule, fell to second. Nevertheless the Bees received a bye, ironically, straight into the second round.
“Not getting first place was okay with us,” said former team manager Terry Hutcheson, “as we seemed to peter out, so to speak, when we’ve had such high expectations on us in past seasons. Maybe now, we can just play, have fun, knowing we’re somewhat the underdogs, or under something!”
“We had plenty to be proud of in the regular season, we don’t need first place. Creates more hunger for the play-offs anyways,” said team spokes-model, and part-time hand-model, Simon Litherland. Anthony ‘Big Daddy’ Winsor did finish tied for the scoring title, and despite missing a few games due to “legal issues” goalie, Christopher ‘Chip’ Bailey, also finished tied for first place with the best record and goals against average for divisional goalies. “Hunger, maybe isn’t the correct word…I mean, this team doesn’t really need to eat more,” continued Litherland.
However, with the play-offs beckoning, Game One versus the Boxers is set for 2 pm Saturday, January 9th at UBC Thunderbird Arena - Father Bauer rink, the Bees are as eager as a twink on his first journey into the bath-house. “We just can’t wait to breathe in that smell, again…of the rink, the rink. Not the bath-house or the change room!” murmured Hutcheson before being whisked away following a spirited team meeting at the team’s official offices and pub, the Fountainhead Pub on Davie Street.
Game Two is set for Tuesday, January 12th at 7:30 pm, also at UBC Thunderbird Arena - Father Bauer rink. All games are available on Pay-Per View.
